(Singapore=Koreanpress) Benjamin Kim = Singapore has just opened the River Safari, making it Asia's first and only river-themed wildlife park. It drew its inspiration from the major rivers of the world. Depicted were the Mississippi, Congo, Ganges, Mekong and Amazon rivers.  Information about these rivers is given for your added knowledge.

The Congo River is the world’s deepest river and has the largest puffer fish and the smallest crocodile.  The Mekong on the other hand boasts the world’s largest catfish and fresh water stingray. The Mississippi gives the beaver, the prehistoric looking snapping turtle and the magnificent paddle fish.

As such, one of its attractions is displaying endangered animals of these rivers, and so naturally you will have the giant pandas. Already well known are the resident pandas – Kai Kai and JiaJia. Meet them in their beautiful forest sanctuary where they can be seen playing and eating their favourite bamboo shoots!

Get down to the banks and you can walk through heart gripping exhibits! Wild Amzonia is said to have the elusive jaguar roaming the forest floor. Up above are the squirrel monkeys swinging freely in the branches. But the true wonder of this forest is when it is submerged.

It now becomes the world’s largest freshwater aquarium in which the world’s largest scaled freshwater fish swims – the arapaima!

Some visitors have complained the boat ride was just a bit too short at around 10 minutes, but enjoyable nevertheless. That is why it is advisable to get to the starting point early, to beat the queue.

Note that the rides are limited and could be fully booked for the day. Also be prepared to miss some of the animals as they may be hiding behind the foliage or sleeping the day off. The park can be done in three to four hours, which means you can take leisurely strolls instead of rushing through!

Note that it offers annual membership. So Singaporeans can take advantage of this facility.
