The global CEO conclave

(Singapore=Koreanpress) Benjamin Kim  =  Andhra Pradesh, home to the Telegus, have appointed a consortium from Singapore, Jurong International, as the master planners for the new Andhra Pradesh capital city and surrounding region, including an 8km2 seed development area.

This is the first phase of the capital city development project, which is a partnership between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh. Mr. S Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh jointly announced Surbana International Consultants and Jurong International as master planners for this project at a media conference in Hyderabad last month. Singapore will also work with Andhra Pradesh to build up an institutional capacity, by sharing its expertise in urban governance with Andhra Pradesh officials overseeing the development of the new capital city.

To date, more than 20 officials have been identified for the inaugural run of the Andhra Pradesh Leaders in Urban Governance Programme 2015. The training programme, organised by the Centre for Livable Cities, was recently held in Singapore for these officials.  Mr. Iswaran said, “Singapore is happy to partner Andhra Pradesh on the capital city development project.

Both Surbana and Jurong International began as government planning units and have proven track records in developing cities, townships and industrial parks in Singapore, India and around the world.

The companies are privileged to be appointed as master planners, and will bring their expertise and experience to work with Andhra Pradesh officials on developing a world-class capital city.” Added Mr. Teo Eng Cheong, Chief Executive Officer of IE Singapore, “The economic benefits from the master plan are far reaching not only for Andhra Pradesh, but also for Singapore and the international business community.
As the new capital region develops, we envisage opportunities for more Singaporean companies to participate in Andhra Pradesh’s growth, particularly in the urban solutions, ICT and industrial infrastructure sectors.”

Mr.Iswaran accompanied by a 25-member business delegation, led by International Enterprise Singapore, comprising companies from the urban solutions, ICT and construction sectors, have already met Andhra Pradesh government officials and local businesses to explore business opportunities in the state.
